Careers at Indian Springs

Indian Springs’ day and boarding program serves 324 students in grades 8-12 as they learn through living, exploring, and partnering with faculty and administrators as part of a supportive community. Guided by our school constitution, we work together in a model of shared governance that encourages participatory citizenship to improve the school.

Working at Indian Springs is more a way of life than a job. In addition to creating a rigorous learning environment, we also spend time with students in the dormitories, on the playing fields, at meals, in advisory sessions, and in many other contexts. More than half of our faculty and several administrators live on campus in dorm apartments or school housing and have responsibilities in the residential life program. They cover the dorms and residential life activities a little less than once a week, and attend the traditional Community Dining once a week. All faculty advise a small group of students and sponsor a club, activity, or student government position, and many coach a sport or sponsor and participate in additional campus programming.

The principles of our democracy are balanced with respect for independent thought and individual achievement. Indian Springs is committed to collaboration and shared values, but it is also a proponent of autonomy in the classroom. We support faculty and administrators in a wide variety of professional development, including tuition aid for furthering education, summer grants, conference attendance, sabbaticals, acquisition of materials, and more.

We offer salaries competitive for comparable independent schools and generous benefits, including a health plan with optional dental and vision coverage, employer contributions to a 401(k) retirement plan, and life and disability insurance. We provide tuition remission for employee children who meet admission requirements. Finally, all employees and members of their households can take advantage of free meals in the dining hall and year-round access to our facilities and beautiful campus, including the lake and walking trails.

Apply to Work at Indian Springs

Indian Springs offers employment to qualified individuals regardless of race, gender, religion, national origin, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. All applicants must be willing to undergo reference checks, employment and civil background checks, and other screening as necessary. Our highest priority is the safety and well-being of our students.

Each year, after identifying our teaching, coaching, and other needs, the Dean of Faculty, department chairs, and other members of our hiring committees will review all the appropriate resumes and schedule interviews with candidates. Additional rounds of interviews for teaching faculty often consist of a day-long visit to Indian Springs to meet with all relevant school personnel. This generally includes a class visitation, a meal with department members, a campus tour with an Indian Springs student, and a class guest-taught by the candidate, among other informational meetings and conversational opportunities.

We accept applications for faculty positions all year. Unless noted otherwise, candidates should send a cover letter and resume to Dean of Faculty Weslie Wald at weslie.wald@indiansprings.org. In response to projected retirements, we may interview applicants as early as the fall. However, most open teaching and administrative positions become known in February and March of each year. Hence the optimum time to submit applications is December and January. We usually make decisions regarding new faculty members from mid-March through mid-May.
