Celebrating 50 Years of Coeducation at Indian Springs School
Half a century ago, a little more than forty young women arrived on campus, becoming the first female members of the Indian Springs School community, marking the school’s transition from an all-boys school to a coeducational institution.
Some students entered as seniors and experienced an extraordinary year at Indian Springs, while others started in the lower grades, bringing enthusiasm, inquisitiveness, and energy. Together, they played a key role in shaping the daily life, culture, and future perspective of the school.
The first cohort of pioneering female students paved the way for countless young women whose intelligence and leadership have made a lasting impact on the school. For more than sixty years, female students and graduates have enhanced Indian Springs, taking their collective experiences into the wider world to accomplish remarkable achievements.
Our community is commemorating this important anniversary by recognizing the pioneering women who came first, celebrating the accomplishments of those who followed, and considering the impact coeducation has had on the school as it is today.
We will share stories from each decade of coeducation in a special edition of Indian Springs Magazine, a yearlong series of social media spotlights, a panel during Women’s History Month, and commemorative events during Alumni Weekend.
Please join us as we look back with gratitude to inspire the current and future generations of women who continue to carry the school forward.
