Springs Students Attend Lowcountry Diversity Conference

Indian Springs was proud to be one of 12 independent schools from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina attending the 2020 Lowcountry Student Diversity Conference.

The conference, in its inaugural year, is hosted by The Savannah County Day School. Its purpose is to equip students in grades 9–12 with the knowledge and skills to improve and enhance the interracial, interethnic, and intercultural climate in their schools.

The 2020 conference included presentations and group sessions on topics such as conflict resolution, cultural competency, leadership, social justice, and equity.

Indian Springs was represented by Kaysen Ford '21, Jordyn Hudson '21, William Marshall '21, Kennedy Tyson '22, Katelin Zhang '22, and chaperones D’Anthony and India Allen.

“My hope is for our students to gain inspiration and information that will help them in their quest to make Indian Springs better,” says Mr. Allen. “Independent schools are leading the way nationally for innovative and progressive change in diversity, equity, and inclusion. At Indian Springs, the foundation has been laid for students to build their capacity for change. Now they will have more tools to help them build bridges across fractions of difference.”
