Four ISS Seniors Win Alabama High School Literary Arts Awards

Four ISS seniors have won awards in the 2014 Alabama High School Literary Arts Awards sponsored by the Alabama Writers’ Forum and the Alabama State Council for the Arts.

Ameer Hakim ’14 and Tara Markert ’14 each received a Creative Nonfiction Certificate of Merit, and Jack O’Malley ’14 received a Poetry Certificate of Merit. Seth Perlman ’14 won the Michael Morris Senior Portfolio Scholarship, which includes a $500 award. Perlman was one of only six students in the state—and the only student attending an independent school—to receive this recognition for his essays and poems.

All four students, who submitted their entries as part of Latin and English teacher Douglas Ray’s Writers’ Workshop last fall, will be recognized at the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery on March 12.

Congratulations!
