Class of 2011 Join Ranks of ISS Alumni

Seventy-two students joined the ranks of Indian Springs School alumni at graduation exercises on May 27.

Several awards were given to seniors during the ceremony. Mallory Mathews ’11 received the Leadership Award. A faculty-selected honor, the award recognizes a graduate with exemplary leadership and character exhibited through participation in student activities. The award is given in memory of Charles Jordan McDavid Jr. ’58.

Elizabeth Perry ’11 and Brandon Waller ’11 received the Spiritual Awareness Awards. Perry and Waller were chosen by their classmates for this award, which recognizes graduates who embody the qualities of dignity, humanitarianism and spiritual awareness. The award is given in memory of Allan Le Voy Furniss ’63 and Robert Barry Kartus ’68.

In addition to the awards and presentation of diplomas, the commencement featured special music by violinist Ji Min Yang ’11, pianist Alina Voicu, and the ISS Concert Choir, led by Tim Thomas ’67; speeches by Zach Corenblum ’11, Andrea Mayo ’11, Elizabeth Perry ’11 and Brandon Waller ’11; and a presentation to Geometry Teacher Gerrin McGowan upon her retirement from the school.

One-hundred percent of the new graduates will be going to college and were offered approximately $4.3 million in scholarships for college matriculation.
