Acworth Awards ISS Scholarhips as Part of Giving Back

When Brian Acworth was evacuated to the U.S. from Britain during World War II, he was able to attend the Choate School, a Connecticut independent school, because of the generosity of others.

Nearly 70 years later, the foundation he started is extending that generosity to Indian Springs School (ISS) students — giving a $10,000 grant to support their education at the award-winning independent school.

The Acworth Foundation sought out Indian Springs for the grant, which will provide partial scholarships to two ISS freshman. The grant will be renewed each year of their ISS career and also includes support with summer employment and college placement related to their academic interests.

As the Acworth Scholars graduate from college and embark on careers, they will be encouraged to support the Foundation as they are able — and continue Acworth’s example of helping others as they were helped.

“We are honored that the Acworth Foundation awarded Indian Springs this grant,” said ISS Director Gareth Vaughan. “Their commitment to academic excellence and giving back to others are qualities we share, and we look forward to a continuing partnership that will give more students the opportunity to experience a Springs education.”

The mission of the Huntington, N.Y., foundation is to assist gifted students in grades 9-12 with scholarships as well as to enhance the educational environment at the schools they attend and, ultimately, society as a whole.
