Toast the Teachers a Great Success
A very successful Toast the Teachers was held April 18 at the Kress Building in Birmingham.
Guests arrived to a video of seniors' pictures throughout the years, and group photos of the class from eighth grade to present dotted the room — giving seniors, parents, faculty and staff the chance to reminisce about the students' years at Springs.
At the conclusion of the video, the toasts began, giving seniors the opportunity to — often with humor and emotion — pay tribute to the teachers who have inspired them. The toasts were made with ISS champagne flutes, filled with ginger ale for the students and champagne for the adults.
The evening also included a very entertaining bocce tournament on the Kress Building terrace. Freddie Delchamps '09, Evan Pantazis '09, Shana Simon '09 and Betsy Stewart '09 carried home the gold in the tournament, with second place going to the grouping of Dorrie Fuchs, Beth Mulvey, David Noone and Gareth Vaughan. The champions received a chalice, and runners up received medallions — all made by Art Teacher Melody Machen.
The event raised almost $47,000 for professional development opportunities for faculty members. Special thanks goes to Janet Stewart for chairing the event, Libby and Dennis Pantazis for hosting, and Dana Guthrie for putting together the video.
