Oprah Announces Scholarship Support at Springs

Oprah Winfrey recently revealed her support of Indian Springs at a meeting of the National Association of Independent Schools.

Since 2002, nine students from the Mississippi Delta and Alabama have attended Springs with funding from her foundation, the Oprah Winfrey Foundation. All of the students have continued their studies on the college level after graduation.

"We are incredibly grateful to Ms. Winfrey for her support of Springs over the years," says Director Gareth Vaughan. "The fruit of her generosity is evident in the lives of students who are forever shaped by their experience here — students who will, no doubt, leave their own indelible mark on the world."

In the midst of turbulent economic times, Springs is offering a record amount of funding for new financial aid requests, according to Director of Admission E.T. Brown. The school anticipates offering more than $400,000 in new financial aid requests for new and returning students for the 2009-2010 academic year, a substantial increase over previous years, Brown says.
