Yang Wins Regional String Competition

Ji Min Yang '11 of Seoul, Korea, won first place in the string division of the prestigious Lois Pickard Music Scholarship Competition on January 24. 

She played the first movement of Concerto No. 5 by W.A. Mozart.

Sponsored by the Symphony Volunteer Council of the Alabama Symphonic Association, Inc., the Lois Pickard Music Scholarship Competition is open to serious and gifted young musicians ages 12–senior high school. Students compete in one of the following areas — strings, brass, winds, percussion and piano — and entrants come from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Ji Min will perform with other winners at the Lois Pickard Award Luncheon on February 12, when she will officially receive her $1,500 cash award for winning the string division.

Ji Min currently studies violin with Concertmaster Daniel Szasz of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.
