Sam, who passed away November 4 after an extended battle with Ewing’s sarcoma, was 14 years old. He is survived by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. William Lapidus of Birmingham; his brother, Springs 8th grader Noah Lapidus; and his sister, Clara Lapidus.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow, November 6, at 1 p.m. at Temple Beth-El, 2179 Highland Ave. in Birmingham, with the graveside service to follow at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Birmingham.
The school has the capacity to transport approximately 100 students to the services. This contingent will leave at 12:15 p.m. from the Library-Woodward Drive intersection and arrive back on campus at approximately 4 p.m. Parents or guardians will need to email permission and reserve transportation by contacting Jan Fortson at jfortson@indiansprings.org.
Parents who intend to travel to the services are encouraged to help by transporting their children. Families who intend to visit the Lapidus family after the graveside service will need to transport their children.
Grief counseling will be on hand to support students and other members of the Springs community and to advise parents seeking to help their children. Counseling will be offered by dorm parent Brian Rodgers, a staff member of The Amelia Center, a comprehensive grief counseling center in Birmingham.
