Matthew Thomson ’24 Named a National Merit Scholar

Indian Springs School senior Matthew Thomson ’24 has been named a National Merit Scholar. He will receive a $2,500 scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to the college of his choice.

Approximately 7,140 National Merit Scholarships winners were chosen from the group of 15,000 distinguished Finalists. Matthew was among the four Indian Springs seniors named 2024 National Merit Finalists selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors based on academic records, standardized test scores, contributions and leadership skills at Indian Springs School, community activities, a personal essay, and a letter of recommendation. Winners are candidates judged to have the most robust combination of academic skills and achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Matthew was named a candidate in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. He was also named an AP Scholar with Distinction in 2023 and recently earned a Global Seal of Biliteracy in Latin, along with 14 hours of college credit. During his time at Indian Springs, Matthew has been a member of the choir and the theatre program. He currently plans to attend Wesleyan University in the fall.
