Five Students Advance to State Poetry Out Loud

Five Indian Springs students are advancing to the state level of Alabama’s Poetry Out Loud competition after placing in the regional competition on February 2.

Social Justice Poetry
2nd Place: Aarvi Shah ’26
4th Place: Ellis Carter ’25

The regional competition was held at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center in Tuscaloosa. Five finalists and two alternates for each category move forward to the state finals held live at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival on Friday, March 3.

Sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Alabama’s chapter of Poetry Out Loud offers three categories of competition: recitation, original poetry, and social justice. The first rounds of competition are held at the classroom and school levels, with winners advancing to the regional and state levels.
