Andrew Glassford ’22 Named Semifinalist in U.S. Presidential Scholars Program

Andrew Glassford ’22 has been named one of 620 semifinalists in the 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The semifinalists were selected from over 5,000 candidates expected to graduate from U.S. high schools this year.

Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, now in its 58th year, is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of their accomplishments in many areas—academic and artistic success, accomplishment in career and technical fields, leadership, strong character, and involvement in school and the community.

Annually, up to 161 U.S. Presidential Scholars are chosen from among that year's senior class, representing excellence in education and the promise of greatness in America's youth. The Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of up to 32 eminent citizens appointed by the President, will select the finalists, and the U.S. Department of Education will announce the Scholars in mid-May.

Andrew was also named a Finalist in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. He is the co-head of Indian Springs’ Mock Trial club that will compete at nationals next month. He was a member of the varsity baseball and bowling teams for four years and played JV soccer for two years. He is currently spearheading a service project with his classmates to build a program to scan and read passports with the hopes of donating the technology to organizations in Ukraine to help refugees cross international borders more efficiently.

Outside of school, Andrew has held two internships in computer software and research. He is a member of the Red Mountain Theatre Performing Ensemble and teaches first-graders in a Sunday School class at his church.

Congratulations to Andrew!
