Mock Trial Team Advances to Nationals

One of Indian Springs’ mock trial teams is heading to nationals after winning second place at the 2021 Fall YMCA Alabama Youth in Government Youth Judicial State Competition on November 6. Team members include Jackson Geisen ’25, Andrew Glassford ’22, Wellington Jiang ’22, Harshil Mehta ’22, Beth Scarborough ’24, Henry Spradlin ’22, and Reece Youhn ’22. Jackson and Reece were named “Oustanding Witnesses,” and Andrew was named an “Outstanding Attorney.”

A second Indian Springs team finished in the top 10 at the state competition. Members include Adrienne Belser ’22, Cynthia Li ’23, Rosa Sabel ’23, Kennedy Tyson ’22, Brasley Zanaty ’22, and Frank Zhao ’23.

Both teams advanced to the state competition after receiving “Outstanding Team” awards at the regional completion in October. Andrew and Catherine received “All-Region Attorney” awards, and Jackson received an “All-Region Witness” award.

A third Indian Springs team also competed at regionals. Members include Aviva Goldberg ’25, Tripp Henderson ’23, Catherine Hinson ’25, Radyn Moradkhani ’25, Eason Shi ’24, and Grayson Whitman ’26.

Indian Springs’ mock trial team placed 14th in the nation in 2017, breaking the record for the highest ranking achieved by an Alabama team in the history of the national competition, which began in 1984. We wish this year’s team and coaches D’Anthony Allen and Carole Mazer the best of luck as they prepare to compete on May 12-15, 2022.
