Indian Springs Physics Team Wins Second Place at State Contest

The Indian Springs Physics Team won second place in the private school division at the 44th Annual University of Alabama High School Physics Contest on January 31.
 
Coached by physics teacher Marjan Obradovic, the team includes Dragon Chen ’21, Gio Garza ’20, Aeacus Sheng ’21, Steven Tang ’21, and Bruce Zhang ’20.

Tang received the ninth-highest score in the individual portion of the competition, which included a written, multiple-choice exam. He also received the highest overall score for a first-time competitor. He was awarded a medal and a plaque.

The second-place award was given to Chen, Garza, Sheng, and Zhang, who competed together in the team problem-solving portion of the competition. They received a plaque.

The annual event includes 75 teams from across Alabama and the surrounding states. It consists not only of physics competitions but also a career panel for students with speakers from industry, government, and universities, and a physics show.
