Ten Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Indian Springs School is proud to announce the names of ten of our seniors who were among the more than 16,000 semifinalists for the 2027 National Merit Scholarships: Isaiah Colorado '27, Alexander Conroy '27, Sedgie Edmondson '27, Xiuwen Hu '27, Darwin Lu '27, Xuanming Ren '27, Michelle Tate '27, Atticus Volkert '27, Caitlyn Yang '27, and Yurou Zhang '27.

2027 semifinalists were selected based on their test scores on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, high school academic record, recommendation from a school official, and additional SAT or ACT testing.

Over 1.2 million juniors in about 20,000 high schools entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

To become finalists, semifinalists and a high school official must submit a scholarship application regarding their academic record, leadership qualities and successes inside and outside the classroom.

Finalists will be announced in February where they will compete for 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships. 700 corporate sponsored and 3,500 college sponsored scholarships will be awarded to eligible finalists that meet corresponding criteria.

Congratulations to our 2027 semifinalists!
