Elise Picard ’23 Medals at Outdoor Track State Championships

Elise Picard ’23 traveled to Gulf Shores May 5-7 to compete in the 4A AHSAA Outdoor Track State Championships. She reached the podium with a third-place finish in the 3200m with a time of 11:50.91; over 18 seconds faster than her time at sectionals! She finished sixth in the 1600m with a time of 5:36.10 and 16th in the 800m with a time of 2:35.40.

Elise qualified for state by placing in the top three in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m at track sectionals held in Winfield on April 29. She placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:35.76, second in the 1600m with a time of 5:36.02, and second in the 3200m with a time of 12:09.35.

This is the third time this year running has placed Elise on the podium. She placed third overall in the Class 4A AHSAA Cross-Country State Championships in November. She also received the bronze medal at the Class 4A-5A Indoor Track State Championships with a personal best time of 11:47.06 in the 3200m race.

Elise was chosen to participate in the 25th annual North-South All-Star Cross-Country Meet during Alabama’s All-Star Sports Week. The week-long event features high school athletes from across the state in eight different sports. This year’s event will be held in Montgomery on July 18-22.
