Two Students To Compete at Poetry Out Loud Regionals

Bennett Atkins ’18 and Delaney Porter ’18 will represent Indian Springs School at the 2016-17 Poetry Out Loud regional competition Tuesday in Tuscaloosa.

Atkins and Porter were selected winner and runner-up, respectively, at the Indian Springs School competition in October. Atkins performed Arthur Rimbaud's poem "Novel" and W.D. Erhart's moving Vietnam War poem "Beautiful Wreckage." Porter performed Percy Bysshe Shelley's classic Romantic sonnet "Ozymandias" and Nick Flynn's humorous "Cartoon Physics (Part 1)".

Created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation and administered by State Arts Agencies, the national recitation contest encourages students across the country to study great poetry, practice public speaking skills, and learn about their literary heritage.

Best of luck to both students at regionals. Go Springs!
