Indian Springs Welcomes New Faculty and Staff

Catherine Cashio joins the math department and will teach algebra and statistics. Catherine lived in seven states before settling down to call Birmingham home. She has a Bachelor’s in Mathematics from Birmingham Southern-College, and a Master’s in Mathematics from the University of Florida. She has been teaching at Birmingham-Southern College for the past five years.

Buck Crowe will join the modern and classical languages department as our new Latin teacher. Buck comes to us with over 15 years of teaching experience at The Altamont School and Mountain Brook Junior High. He is currently in his ninth year as co-chair of the Alabama Junior Classical League. He has a Bachelor’s in Classics from Wheaton College and a Master’s in Field Archaeology from the University of York. He will serve as Chair of the Modern and Classical Languages Department.

Angela Grant joins the history department as our new world history teacher. She has a great deal of classroom, travel, and professional experience, ranging from teaching history, world religions, writing, public speaking, and English to living and working in the United States, Portugal, Afghanistan, and Bahrain. Angela holds a Bachelor’s in French from the University of Connecticut, a Master’s in English from Trinity College, a Master’s in Religion from Yale University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Madison Miller joins our arts department as our incoming photography teacher. Madison graduated from Auburn University in 2019, double majoring in art history and media studies. She recently moved back to Birmingham after spending the last year living in Australia. 

Paul Morris joins our math department, teaching geometry, and algebra with trig. Paul is returning to the classroom after spending the last year as an instructional coach. He has 25 years of experience teaching in area public schools. Paul holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Victoria Ott joins our History Department, teaching AP U.S. History and women’s studies electives. Victoria has a Bachelor’s in History and a Master’s in American History from the University of Central Florida and a Doctorate in Nineteenth-Century U.S. History from the University of Tennessee. She spent the last several years at Birmingham-Southern College, where she helped establish and coordinate the gender and women’s studies minor program. 

Matthew Rhoades will join the science department as our new physics teacher. Matthew has a Bachelor’s in Physics from the University of South Carolina and a Master’s in Physics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He most recently taught physics at Birmingham-Southern College and was the lab coordinator for the physics department. Matthew will be moving on campus and joining our residential life community. 

Rebecca Mahayag, LCSW-C joins our staff as our new School Counselor. Rebecca comes to Indian Springs from private practice in Maryland. She has a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in adolescents, young adults, and families. Rebecca and her family will be moving on campus and joining our Residential Life community.

Edina Shrestha joins the staff as our new Advancement Associate, managing Indian Springs’ database and stewardship. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior architecture from George Washington University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has been a member of the Indian Springs community for the past several years, dedicating her time as both a volunteer and parent (Shadie ’22 and Sovan ’23).

Anne Cook Burruss joins our college advising department as Associate Director of College Advising after serving as our school counselor for the past four years.
