Teacher to Self

An essential relationship within the school community — one often overlooked — is the relationship teachers have with themselves, both in terms of professional responsibilities and personal well-being.
An Indian Springs teacher's primary professional responsibility is continually to become a better teacher. Data that comes from peers, mentors, and students' evaluations can help monitor our faculty's professional growth. Some of this data will come to teachers without them asking, yet they must always remember to seek help from peers or administrators when it is needed. Taken together, this data should flow into an ongoing and honest self-evaluation.

Continuing education is a key part of professional development at Indian Springs. Courses, workshops, and conventions, as well as personal study in the teacher's subject field, pedagogy, or any area that might broaden their awareness, are ways for the faculty to remain current and effective as teachers.

The faculty's ability to communicate in the classroom can often be a function of their own well-being. Teacher burnout is a common problem in the profession, yet strategies can be developed to help avoid it. Scheduling personal and family time, getting exercise, eating well, and generally being vigilant about one's healthcare are proven ways in which to keep our faculty's professional performance top-notch.
