Award-winning Student Violinist Kicks Off 2016-17 Musical Friday Series

Sophomore Haeun Honney Kim ’19 kicked off Springs' 2016-17 Musical Friday series with fantastic performances of the first movement of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 and Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy.

Kim, who is concertmaster of the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra and was also named concertmaster of the 2015 and 2016 Alabama All State Festival Orchestra, has appeared as a soloist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Interlochen Symphony Orchestra, the Southern Adventist University Orchestra in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Delta Symphony Orchestra in Jonesboro, Ark., and the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Internationally, she won first place in the junior division (age 11-15) of the 2014 ENKOR International Competition for Violin and Piano and third place at the 2014 Leopold Auer International Violin Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia.

She will perform the Carmen Fantasy with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra in December and will accompany the Moscow Ballet’s principal ballerina in Saint-Saens’ iconic “Dying Swan” on Dec. 3 at the BJCC.

Springs’ Musical Friday series, which showcases the artistry of talented student musicians, is held on select Fridays during morning break.
