Contemporary Music

Dedicated to inspiring another avenue of artistic creativity and collaboration, Indian Springs' Contemporary Music Program includes a Contemporary Music Ensemble class, a Recording Arts class, private lessons and a Show Choir.
The semester-long Contemporary Music Ensemble class gives students the opportunity to learn about jazz, mainstream and popular music genres, and perform songs from the likes of Beck, Weezer, Beyonce, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Soulive, The Meters and Herbie Hancock. The goal of the semester-long class is to teach and develop performance skills while reinforcing music fundamentals, ear training, theory, arranging and improvisation. Students then take their skills on the guitar, drums, bass, keyboards and vocals and perform them in public venues to fulfill course requirements.

Students may also take private lessons in most instruments used in contemporary/commercial music (guitar, bass, drums, brass etc.) from working professional musicians. Students interested in learning more about music composition can take private lessons in composition in both classical and contemporary music styles.

A semester-elective, the Recording Arts class introduces students to the principles of sound engineering and production. A hands-on course utilizing analog and digital formats, students jointly undertake the production of a song that involves arranging, recording and mixing tracks of instruments and vocals performed by Springs students
