Tozzi Named Alabama Boys Soccer Coach of the Year

Indian Springs School Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Rik Tozzi has been selected by the National Federation of State High School Associations to receive the 2017-18 Alabama Coach of the Year award for Boys Soccer.

Every year, the Federation partners with state associations to recognize outstanding high school coaches who are leading their sport, mentoring their athletes, and contributing in a positive way to their community. Tozzi was this year’s Alabama High School Athletic Association nominee.

Tozzi has been the head coach of the Indian Springs Boys Soccer Team since 2002. During his tenure, the team has won three state championships, played for two others, and finished in the top four 10 other times. The team was also won several Lakeshore Shootout Tournaments and Birmingham Metro Tournaments.

Under his direction, Indian Springs players have also set state records for scoring and defense. Multiple team alumni have gone on to play at Division I, II, and III colleges.

In addition to his coaching accomplishments at Springs, Tozzi, a practicing attorney and partner at Burr & Forman LLP, has won numerous state championships at the club level, coached Olympic development teams for the state of Alabama, and qualified for the English Football Association coaching badge.

Before beginning his career in coaching, Tozzi played on the Oxford University Soccer Team for four years and had numerous stints as a contract player for English non-league teams.
