Mayu Nakano ’23 Named Presidential Scholar Semifinalist

Mayu Nakano ’23 was named a Semifinalist in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program; one of 628 students selected from a pool of over 5,000 candidates graduating high school this year.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. The program has since been extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts, and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.

Each year, up to 161 students are named Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students. The Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of up to 32 eminent citizens appointed by the President, will select the finalists, and the U.S. Department of Education will announce the Scholars in mid-May.

Mayu was named a National Merit Finalist, scored a perfect 36 on her ACT, and was recently awarded for her brain tumor research. She was also a Grand Award Winner at last year’s Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair. Mayu plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall.

Congratulations to Mayu!
