Two Seniors Named Presidential Scholar Candidates

Two Seniors Named Presidential Scholar Candidates

Indian Springs seniors Cynthia Li ’23 and Mayu Nakano ’23 have been selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.

Approximately 70 students from Alabama and more than 5,000 students nationwide were selected as candidates from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in 2023.

Established in 1964, the Presidential Scholars Program seeks to recognize some of the country’s most distinguished graduating seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character, and involvement in community and school activities.

Candidates are invited to submit an application to continue in the program. Up to 161 finalists will be named Presidential Scholars and will have the opportunity to attend a White House-sponsored recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C., this June.

Since the program began, six Indian Springs students have been named Presidential Scholars, one of the country’s highest honors for high school students.

Cynthia and Mayu were also named National Merit Semifinalists, and each scored a perfect 36 on their ACT.

Congratulations to Cynthia and Mayu!
