Honeycutt ’22, Johnson ’22 Named Heisman School Winners

Indian Springs seniors Olivia Honeycutt ’22 and Nicholas Johnson ’22 have been named School Winners in the 2021 Heisman High School Scholarship Competition.

The Heisman Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding college football player in the nation. The Heisman High School Scholarship extends the Heisman prestige to the nation’s most outstanding high school student-athletes. Applicants must be graduating in the class of 2022, have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least one sport, and be leaders on the field as well as in their schools and communities.

Olivia is a student government representative, a student ambassador, a peer mentor, and a member of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. She heads the Psychology Club and Junior United Nations Assembly and is a member of the scholars’ bowl and science olympiad teams. Olivia plays piano in the instrumental music program and plays soccer for Indian Springs and the Vestavia Hills Soccer Club. Outside of school, she participates in leadership forums and volunteers at numerous nonprofit organizations.

Nicholas plays soccer and is involved in the contemporary music program. Outside of school, he works at a local grocery store and volunteers at the food bank. 

School Winners will advance to their respective state competitions for a chance to win $1,000 scholarships. State Winners continue to the national competition, where finalists receive $2,000 scholarships, and two winners receive $10,000 scholarships.
