Kim ’19, Lee ’21 Claim Top Prizes at Regional Music Competitions

Congratulations to Springs violinist Honney Kim ’19 and Springs pianist Eleanor Lee ’21, who were both named first-place winners in 2018–19 regional music competitions!

Kim ’19 was named first-place winner of the Senior Division (ages 15–18) at the 2018 Tennessee American String Teachers Association Competition, held Dec. 15 at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She was awarded a cash prize of $1,200. Kim, a Myra Jackson Scholarship recipient for the past six years, currently studies with Cornelia Heard, Chair of the String Department at Vanderbilt University. She was also recently named an honorable mention recipient in the Classical Music category of the National YoungArts Competition.

Lee ’21 was named first-place winner of the Piano Division at the 2019 Lois Pickard Scholarship Competition, sponsored by the Symphony Volunteer Council of the Alabama Symphonic Association and held Jan. 12 at Birmingham Southern College. She will perform at the Lois Pickard Scholarship Award Luncheon in February and will receive a cash prize of $1,500. Lee has studied with Dr. Hye-Sook Jung, Indian Springs Director of Instrumental Music, for the past 9 years and has won many regional and national piano competitions.
