Springs Scholars Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Abroms Fund

Indian Springs’ 2018 Abroms Scholars gathered on Dec. 12 to thank Hal Abroms for 20 years of sponsoring summer study programs through the Andy Abroms Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Established in 1997 through a generous gift from Hal Abroms and Judy Abroms (January 1930–October 2018) in memory of their son Andy Abroms ’77, the fund has created opportunities across the country and around the world for over 300 Springs scholars. During a special luncheon, the 2018 scholars reflected on their Abroms experiences:

“It was amazing to share my experience with the other scholars and with Mr. Abroms,” says Alex McFadden ’20, who attended a Dramatic Writing seminar at New York University. “This scholarship changed my life and connected me to experiences I never thought I would have.”

“It was so nice to meet Mr. Abroms and hear him talk about what the scholarship means to him,” says Kadie Jacobs ’19, who attended a Vocal Performance camp at the University of Miami. “I saw his face light up when I talked about making connections between my camp and school.”

Springs’ Advancement Office will host an “Abroms Scholars: Then and Now” panel discussion on Friday, April 26, at 1:00 p.m. in the John Badham Theater. The panel will feature alumni and current students reflecting on the many ways the Andy Abroms Memorial Scholarship Fund enriched their lives. Registration to attend the panel (part of Alumni Weekend 2019) opens in January. Please watch for an e-invitation.
