McFadden ’18 Signs To Play Division I Soccer at Lipscomb

Indian Springs senior Logan McFadden ’18 has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I Soccer at Lipscomb University in Nashville.

A four-year starter and team captain of Indian Springs’ Girls Soccer Team, McFadden, a defender, was named to the Alabama All-State and All-Shelby teams in 2017 and the Birmingham All-Metro Team 2015–17. She has also served as a five-year starter and a 2016–17 champions league participant for the Birmingham United Soccer Association’s Elite Clubs National League 00 team and took part in the 2017 Olympic Development Program for the 2017 Southeast Regional and the 2016–17 Alabama State Team.

At a signing ceremony held on Indian Springs’ Engel Terrace, girls soccer head coach Hunter Gray called McFadden a “rare combination of athleticism and talent and coachability.”

“It’s too common that the more talented players are, the more they rest on athleticism,” said Gray. “Logan has always been, from day one, ‘How do you want me to do it? And not only me, but the group in front of me … .’ Another common trait of talented kids sometimes is they’re afraid of the big moment, and that has not been Logan.”

During her first three years as a center back on Indian Springs’ team, McFadden had 37 shutouts in 67 games. As a senior, she stepped into the midfield and doubled her career goals from 10 to 20, more than a third of which were game winners.

“I am really happy that she has found a place to play at the next level, and we are definitely going to miss having her with us,” said Gray.

Ben Parks, director of coaching at the Birmingham United Soccer Association, said BUSA is “losing an ambassador … but Lipscomb is gaining a gem.”

"When you get up there, do the things that make you great—excellence, enthusiasm, love for other people—and you will no doubt represent your school and us very well,” he said.

Andrew Brower, executive director of BUSA, described McFadden as the ultimate example of the club and high school athletic experience. “She’s a great, great player and an even better human being—what a blessing it has been to see that take shape as she goes to the next level.”

McFadden said she is honored by her coaches’ remarks and excited about the signing. Soccer at Springs, she said, has helped her “blossom as a player.”

“I’ve learned tactical and technical skills here, but I’ve also enjoyed being part of something with others who are not all in the same grade, and we’re all striving for something together. It’s not just about playing soccer: It’s about the relationships that you build, and the ways that sports can translate into life.”
