Three ISS Students Win Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Three ISS students have won regional awards in the 2014 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a prestigious recognition program that boasts such talented alumni as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Joyce Carol Oates, Stephen King, Robert Redford, Ken Burns, and many other creative visionaries.

Mira Walker ’16 received the Gold Key award for her personal essay/memoir, “The Ceremony.” The Gold Key is the highest level of achievement on the regional level, and Walker’s submission is currently being considered for national recognition. Lianna Zhou ’16 won two awards, a Silver Key for her poem “Death By Storm” and an Honorable Mention for her poem “Nothing But Me.” Jisu Oh ’15 received two Honorable Mention recognitions, the first for her digital artwork “Evan” and the second for her painting “Landscape With Vase.”

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running recognition program for creative teens and the largest source of scholarships for promising young artists and writers in the United States.

National medalists will be announced on March 17. Congratulations to all three regional winners!
