The Parents Association

The Parents’ Association links the parents and the school and encourages communication and involvement in school activities. The Parents’ Association hosts several events for parents throughout the year and assists the school with recruiting, fund raising and hospitality. Although the Association does not conduct general meetings, it sponsors two Open Forums for parents that are informal gatherings with the Director during which parents can ask questions, make suggestions and hear about topics current to the students and the school. Potluck dinners for each grade are fun and an informal way for parents to learn more about the school and meet other parents.

All parents of students attending Indian Springs School are automatically members of the Parents Association. The work of the Association is done in the committees listed below. Parents are encouraged to participate in as many committees as they would like. Contact committee chairs or the Parents’ Association President if you would like to volunteer.

Athletics: Robin and Chris Guion

This committee works with Coaches Van Horn and Gray to communicate information to parents about athletic events, practices, and schedule changes, and to coordinate volunteer workers at athletic events. Parents can volunteer to coordinate phone and email communications between the coach and parents for a specific sport or team.

Boarding: Kathryn Kerchof

The committee offers a variety of opportunities for parents to support boarding students. Activities include providing welcome gift bags to boarding students when they arrive for the school year, providing snacks for study breaks, hosting Halloween and Valentines Parties, keeping parents of boarding students informed of events and activities, and assisting in organizing weekend activities for boarders.

This committee works under the direction of Gisele Crowe, Director of Development, to encourage Annual Fund support from parents and may include other fund raising activities in addition to writing thank-you notes to contributing parents.

Graduation Committee: Melissa & Luther Strange

This committee organizes and coordinates the activities surrounding graduation including invitations, senior pictures, social events for parents and seniors during graduation week, etc. Although it is primarily composed of parents of seniors, junior parents can join also and plan ahead for graduation 2009.

This committee coordinates the receptions for various school functions throughout the year, including Parents Day, college night, and choir functions. They also support the Recruiting and Boarding committees as needed.

New Parents Welcome: Carla Hawley

This committee serves as the first line of contact between parents of new students and the Parents' Association. Members organize the September dinner, and remain available throughout the year to answer any questions or concerns that parents of new ISS students may have.

This committee works with E.T. Brown, Director of Admissions, in order to attend and provide refreshments for the two open houses that are held on campus for prospective students. Members also help host and organize home gatherings for prospective students and their parents, allowing committee members to answer questions and share their ISS experiences and enthusiasm.

This committee works with Gisele Crowe, Director of Development, to request support for the Faculty Summer Program from parents of graduating seniors. A party or dinner for seniors, their parents, and faculty is the primary fund-raising event for this committee.

Potluck Dinners
These committees organize the potluck dinners for parents in each grade. The dinners are held in the fall and are an excellent way to get to know parents of other students.
