Campus Master Plan Update

On March 15, 2004, the Board of Governors of Indian Springs School approved the Campus Master Plan concept as presented by Dick Pigford of ArchitectureWorks, LLP.

ArchitectureWorks' presentation was the culmination of several months' work, which included a Town Meeting and faculty-student Building Committee meetings and involved the Planning Committee of the Board. The four Design Goals relate to the current Strategic Plan, which calls for a renewed commitment to the school as a single, effective learning community. The goals include (1) developing an open, pedestrian-friendly campus; (2) creating spaces that encourage intellectual and social interaction while respecting the need for privacy; (3) providing an appropriate balance between openness and security; and (4) promoting increased interaction with the natural surroundings through environmentally sensitive design. Taken together, all four goals are designed to renew the importance of Learning through Living.

ArchitectureWorks is currently focusing on program and design details. The firm will make a presentation to alumni, parents, and all others interested on April 17 as part of Alumni Weekend.

Highlights of the plan include:

  • New Dormitories for 46 girls and 46 boys.
  • New Faculty Housing for residential life faculty (4 2-story units).
  • New Science Center for Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences and Greenhouse.
  • New Campus Center containing Student Services, Visual Arts, Art Gallery, Classrooms and Offices.
  • Relocation of the Main Road to create a pedestrian-friendly link between residential life and academics, arts, and administration.
